SBRnet (Sports Business Research Network) was founded in 1996 by Richard A. Lipsey, in Princeton, New Jersey. SBRnet is a fee-based service, focusing on the sporting goods and sports marketing industry. It's mission is to provide a continuously updated resource featuring market research and industry news covering all facets of the industry…sports equipment sales, sports participation, sports broadcasting, sports sponsorship and sports marketing.
In addition to founding SBRnet, Lipsey recently created an online Sporting Goods Industry academic course which he now teaches online as a credit course at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT.
SBRnet is in many ways an extension of a concept originally published as an industry directory entitled SPORTS MARKET PLACE. Lipsey founded SPORTS MARKET PLACE in 1980 and sold the directory in 1996. We became enamored with Internet and its nearly infinite capacity to organize and store information from many different sources in one place, thus the introduction of SBRnet.
SBRnet is designed to capitalize on the capacity of Internet and its related technology to dramatically enhance the value of information by providing a variety of information sources in one place. We have developed a number of ways to process, store, and present large bodies of information in a simple, direct and easy-to-use format. Most of SBRnet's database includes information licensed from the outside sources, in return for royalties based on SBRnet revenues.
Recently, SBRnet's database has been expanded to include a complete directory of U.S. and Canadian college sports programs, as well as a links directory to over 10,000 sports organizations.
SBRnet's site combines market research from the largest single research supplier to the industry, the National Sporting Goods Association; the U.S. Department of Commerce; various sports governing bodies; and full-text articles from 14 magazines and newsletters published by VNU, the world's largest sporting goods trade publisher, and newsletters provided by leading independent industry experts. Subjects covered include sporting goods industry, sports sponsorship and marketing, broadcasting, facilities, broadcasting and new media.
SBRnet offers three basic types of subscriptions…a one-month trial subscription ($125), a three-month "trial" subscription ($279) and an annual subscription ($750). In addition, SBRnet provides special subscription programs for colleges and universities. SBRnet subscribers include manufacturers, industry consultants, website developers and owners, financial service agencies, advertising agencies, universities and public libraries.
